Seasonal Adjustments...

Fall invites adjustments as cooler temperatures prepare us for winter’s chill, especially here in the northern Prairies. Wardrobes shift—out come the boots for that first, all-too-soon snowfall. Bodies crave comfort foods, trading light salads for heartier fare.   Mindsets shift too. What felt warm in spring now pierces to the bone, our bodies not yet acclimated. Most birds have fled to warmer climes, their absence marked by geese soaring overhead. It’s a time to clear closets, swap decorative pillows for darker hues, and adorn homes with Halloween decor, soon to give way to Christmas lights.  A year nears its close, making way for new calendars and diaries. Time seems to accelerate with each passing season. As a senior, I find shorter days draw me to reading, with whispers of hibernation tugging at my spirit.
